The medical literature defines osteoporosis as a disease characterized by abnormalities in the amount and architectural arrangement of bone tissue that leads to impaired skeletal strength and an undue susceptibility to fractures. Wow. Let’s try that again in plain English: Osteoporosis means “porous bone.”

If you look at healthy bone under a microscope, you will see that it kind of looks like a honeycomb. If you have osteoporosis, the holes and spaces in the honeycomb are much bigger than they are in healthy bone. This means your bones have lost density or mass, which in turn means they have become weaker. Osteoporosis complications (fractures) affect 1.8 million people each year and account for roughly 40 million dollars in health care costs each day.

In a commentary published in the October 20, 2011 issue of The Journal of Pediatrics, Dr. Eric Hassall cautions that medicine has turned normal function in infants into a disease complete with drug therapy and the resulting list of adverse events.

The problem lies in the fact that many doctors are viewing frequent spitting up, irritability and unexplained crying in infants under the age of one as a medical condition because the symptoms are distressing to parents. 15 Warning Signs of an Unhealthy Spine:

  1. Your Heels Wear Out Unevenly. This can be due to uneven leg length or stress along the length of the spine.
  2. You Can’t Take a Satisfying Deep Breath. Subluxations in the upper back and ribs can cause restricted breathing and/or expansion of the chest.
  3. Your Jaw “Clicks”. This can be caused by neck misalignment and severe tension in the upper neck.

Do Cortisone Shots Make Things Worse?

A major new article review recently published in The Lancet reveals what many in the natural health profession have suspected for a long time.  The review examined the results of over 40 randomized trials and over 2500 patients with tendon injuries. The reviewers found that cortisone injections did in fact provide fast and significant pain relief compared with doing nothing or partaking in physical therapy. However, cortisone shots did not heal the structural damage underlying the pain. Instead, they actually hindered the structural healing.

When patients who received cortisone injections were re-examined at 6 and 12 months, the results were alarming. Overall, people who received cortisone shots had a much lower rate of full recovery than those who did nothing or who underwent physical therapy.
