How to Sleep Well Naturally

Getting a good night of sleep is one of the cornerstones of health. After all, sleep is when your body is able to repair and heal. However, sleep deprivation is such a chronic condition these days that you might not even realize you suffer from it.

Our inability to disconnect – from cell phones, tablets, laptops, television, music players – all can result in a lack of rest. Science has now established that a sleep deficit can have serious, far reaching effects on your health. For example, interrupted or impaired sleep can; weaken your immune system, accelerate tumor growth, impair your memory, and decrease your performance on physical and mental tasks. When your circadian rhythms are disrupted, your body produces less melatonin and has less ability to fight cancer (melatonin helps suppress free radicals that can lead to cancer). This is why tumors grow faster when you sleep poorly.

What can you do to help get a better night of sleep? Continue reading “How to Sleep Well Naturally”

Germs + Chiropractic = Healthier Childhood

There’s a growing body of research showing that children exposed to lots of germs early in life are less likely to develop allergies, asthma or autoimmune disorders as they grow up.

A recent study done in the Journal Science shows that exposure to microbes during early childhood is associated with protection from immune-mediated diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and asthma. The reason being that when these microbes enter the gut they keep a rare part of the immune system reined in. When there are NO microbes present, the immune cells run rampant in the lungs and intestines, increasing the risk of asthma and colitis. Add in the microbes, and cells in question, invariant natural killer T cells, retreat. Continue reading “Germs + Chiropractic = Healthier Childhood”

How to Be More Productive at Everything

We are not computers. We are not meant to sit for 8+ hours every day. We are not meant to work continuously for long hours. We are not meant to stay connected 24/7.

The human body is hard-wired to pulse. To operate at our best, we need to renew our energy throughout the day – not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally. When we build this rhythm into our lives, it changes everything. Unfortunately, rest is something we rarely get a chance to do in today’s increasingly hectic working world.

However, by making the following changes in your life, you’ll see your productivity and performance (as well as happiness) soar: Continue reading “How to Be More Productive at Everything”

How and Why Music is Good For Your Health

Music is Good For Your Health

Research on music and the brain has shown that it can reduce stress, alleviate pain and promote relaxation. And new research from the Cleveland Clinic shows that music can even reach into deep brain structures unrelated to hearing and memory to literally soothe nerves.

Studies have also shown how great music can be for reducing stress – especially before an operation or medical procedure. In fact, it was shown that relaxing music significantly decreases the level of anxiety of patients in a preoperative setting better than medication – without any side effects. How cool is that? In other studies, subjects who listened to music before a stressful event showed lower cortisol levels for more than an hour following the event when compared to those facing the same stress without music. Is Your Spine in Line?

Is Your Spine In Line?
15 Warning Signs of an Unhealthy Spine:

  1. Your Heels Wear Out Unevenly. This can be due to uneven leg length or stress along the length of the spine.
  2. You Can’t Take a Satisfying Deep Breath. Subluxations in the upper back and ribs can cause restricted breathing and/or expansion of the chest.
  3. Your Jaw “Clicks”. This can be caused by neck misalignment and severe tension in the upper neck.
  4. You Have to “Crack” Your Neck, Back, or Other Joints Often. This is your body telling you that something is out of alignment. It can be caused by areas of your spine that are locked or jammed.
  5. You Can’t Twist or Turn Your Head or Hips to Either Side Easily and Equally. Reduced range of motion comes from misaligned vertebrae.
  6. You Are Often Tired. An unbalanced spine drains your energy.
  7. You Have Poor Concentration. Misalignments in your spine affect the Brain-Body connection.
  8. You Have Low Resistance to Disease. Chiropractic adjustments to reduce nerve pressure have been shown to help increase white blood cells throughout the body. Studies show that every time you get adjusted, your Interleukin-2 (IL-2) levels go up immediately. IL-2 is what your body uses to kill viral and bacterial assaults.
